Sarah Jane Meharg

Dallaire Centre of Excellence for Peace and Security

Dr. Sarah Jane Meharg is a global authority on the destruction of cultural property and post-war reconstruction. She specializes in the cultural, identity, security, and economic reconstruction of post-conflict environments.  

Dr. Meharg is an Engagement Officer at the Dallaire Centre of Excellence for Peace and Security, Canadian Defence Academy, and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Defence Studies at Canadian Force College. She is a committed military educator, teaching political geography, complex operations, leadership, regional security studies, and peace operations courses. Dr. Meharg has most recently co-edited the book Evolving Human Security: Frameworks and Considerations for Canada’s Military (CDA Press, 2023) for the Dallaire Centre of Excellence for Peace and Security. 

Dr. Meharg is the only Canadian civilian who has worked for the Peace Support Training Centre (Kingston, ON), the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (Cornwallis, NS, and Ottawa, ON), and the US Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (Carlisle, PA), developing curriculum, managing international research projects, and producing training and education results which help diplomacy, development, and defence stakeholders understand the impact of interventions on local cultures affected by complex emergencies.
