David Lambert was commissioned into The Royal Canadian Regiment in 1988 and resigned his commission in mid-2021. Much of his career was spent on regimental duty including three years with the British Army. His career included 11 operational deployments including the Oka Crisis, multiple deployments to Bosnia under both UN and NATO mandates, Eritrea in 2001under the UN mandate, Haiti in 2004 under operational command of 8 Regiment, USMC, Afghanistan in 2012 as an advisor, and the Sinai as part of Multinational Force and Observers mission. In the latter portion of his career, he gained extensive experience in the development of tactical and operational level doctrine for the Canadian Army, joint authorities, and NATO. Since retirement, he has worked as a contractor and consultant in various aspects of military capability development.
