Col. Catherine Marchetti, OMM, CD

Commander 7 Wing (Space), Royal Canadian Air Force

Colonel Marchetti is a Royal Canadian Air Force Aerospace Engineer and a graduate from the Royal Military College of Canada. She started her career in space operations for the Radarsat-1 earth observation satellite at the Canadian Space Agency, followed by a tour at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory at the Millstone Hill Radar Facility as an orbital analyst for the US Space Surveillance Network.

Later on, Colonel Marchetti became the Space Surveillance System Engineer for the Surveillance of Space Project, more commonly known as Sapphire; and then worked with the Directorate of Space Development in the strategic planning section. She also worked in Science and Technology as the Group Leader for Space Systems and Operations at the Defence Research and Development Canada Ottawa Research Centre. Colonel Marchetti also served as the Director Space Strategy and Plans under Director General Space where she oversaw strategic engagements, space strategy and plans development, space mission assurance and space force generation.

In 2020, Colonel Marchetti took command of the Canadian Forces Joint Imagery Centre, the largest Department of National Defence user of space-based imagery, producing geospatial intelligence and managing the Radarsat Constellation Mission/Polar Epsilon 2 capability. Promoted to her current rank in 2022, Col Marchetti is the first Commander 7 Wing (Space) under 3 Canadian Space Division, where she is responsible for space operations and the delivery of space effects supporting Canadian Armed Forces operations at home and abroad.
