Brigadier-General (ret’d) Brian McPherson
BGen (Ret'd) Brian McPherson retired from the Canadian Forces in March 2020 after serving some 38 years. He has commanded at all levels from Lt to BGen and served as a staff officer at the tactical, operational, and strategic level. Highlights of his career include command of Canadian Forces College, Canadian Army Command and Staff College, Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School, Disaster Assistance Response Team Coy and service as the Chief of Defence Staff’s Liaison Officer to the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CJOC J7 and Ex Director of Joint Ex 2015 and COS of Army Doctrine and Training System. He is a graduate of the NATO General Officer & Ambassadors Course @ NATO Defence College, Canadian Forces Executive Leadership Program @ Canadian Forces College, Royal College of Defence Studies Program @ Royal College of Defence Studies London. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from RMC (Royal Military College). Since retirement he has worked as contractor in the middle east as Senior Defence Advisor – Education and Training – for two major defence transformation projects and most recently for Calian in support of CJOC and CFC. He is an active grandfather, hockey ref, chef and golfer. Brian and Alison have been married for 37 years and have two adult children.
